Coinbase layer-2 network Base has reached a new milestone, surpassing its previous record for daily transactions. According to data from blockchain explorer BaseScan, on September 14, Base hit 1.88 million transactions, exceeding its former record of 1.41 million transactions on August 21, when it was launched. This puts Base ahead of rival layer-2 networks like Optimism and Arbitrum, which had a combined 878,000 transactions on the same day.
Despite this achievement, Base still trails behind larger blockchain networks such as Polygon and BNB Smart Chain (BSC). Polygon recorded 2.1 million transactions on September 14, while BSC had 3.1 million transactions. Interestingly, unlike the previous record day in August, Base had fewer daily active users, with only around 86,000 recorded on September 14, according to data from Dune Analytics.
Base was officially launched on August 9, offering users the ability to bridge tokens, swap tokens, provide liquidity, and mint nonfungible tokens (NFTs) on the layer-2 network. Since its launch, Base has garnered significant attention from the crypto community. In just two weeks, over $242 million worth of crypto assets were bridged to the network, with more than 130,000 unique wallets utilizing it daily. Furthermore, on September 6, over 700,000 NFTs were minted by over 268,000 unique wallets on Base.
