Arbitrum (ARB) tokens have recently witnessed a significant decline, reaching their lowest point in history. This slump comes as a result of multiple factors, including a decrease in total value locked (TVL), a decline in active addresses engaging with its decentralized applications (DApps), and the overall market malaise in the crypto industry.

Arbitrum has been considered one of the leading layer-2 scalability solutions within the Ethereum network. However, between September 9 and September 11, the price of ARB tokens experienced a sharp decline of 14.5%, alarming investors and prompting them to seek insight into the reasons behind this movement.

Despite the decline in token prices, Arbitrum still maintains a TVL exceeding $1.6 billion, demonstrating its strong foundation. However, the past week has been challenging for most cryptocurrencies, and among Ethereum's scaling solutions, Arbitrum stands out with a drop exceeding 9%.

One potential concern for investors is the absence of any instances of fraud-proof issuance since the launch of the Arbitrum mainnet in August 2021. While this situation aligns with the intended operation of the system, some developers argue that it hasn't significantly impacted the price in the past week.

Additionally, governance proposals from Arbitrum's decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) have also contributed to the token price correction. These proposals aim to address short-term community needs and create a native yield for participants. However, their impact on the price correction is debatable.

Other concerns include potential liquidation risks on both centralized and decentralized exchanges that offer leveraged trading. The decline in Arbitrum's TVL and reduced user activity further raise doubts about investor confidence and the project's viability.

Despite offering lower fees compared to Ethereum, Arbitrum needs to see an upswing in transactions and an expansion of its user base in order to close the price performance gap with its competitors. Without these improvements, it will be challenging for ARB tokens to regain their value.
